2011 A Year in Food | Welcoming 2012

Another year has come and gone and 2011 fades into history.  Has it sunk in for you yet? It hasn’t for me, it never does. I can never quite figure out where the last year escaped to. I remember everyone telling me when I was young that the older I got, the quicker time would seem to pass.  Funny thing is, I don’t feel old, yet the years already seem to be flying by faster than I can keep track of them.

So ready or not, here we are in 2012 and despite the fact that I still don’t know where the past year went, there is something undeniably wistful and hopeful in embracing the endless possibilities of a new one and contemplating what the past one has left.

Now I don’t generally do resolutions for fear of sounding like a broken record at the beginning of each year, asserting once again my earnest intentions in attaining whatever lofty and unattainable resolutions I inevitably failed to achieve in the previous one.  And I’m fairly certain I’m in good company in that respect as we say to ourselves each January “this year it’s going to be different” so I’m doing something a little different this time around, I’m making a life resolution.

I resolve to live more fully present in each moment, to appreciate every bit I can and find the joyfulness that lies in the ordinary. While I may lack in the specifics of what 2012 will bring, I do know that regardless of the what, where and how I’ll strive to live the fullest life I can.  Hopefully you’ll all join me in this endeavor in your own way.

And with a new year and new possibilities comes new meals.  Meals that perhaps involve the discovery of a new favorite food, or a favorite new restaurant, maybe even during travels to a new country? How many meals will we share with people who haven’t yet come into our lives? How many will we eat at home with our loved ones, and how many be enjoyed on a blanket in the warm sun?  Hopefully many and I’m looking forward to them all.

To welcome in 2012, I’ve put together a collage of some recipes from 2011.  The recipes I’ve shared in this space this past year are one’s that have been well-loved in my kitchen and I hope they will be so in your kitchen as well.  To view the recipes for any of the images above simply click on the photo.

Thank you for all the support over the past 12 months and here’s to beautiful and tasty 2012!

I feel the same way, time is flying so fast, and it gets faster as I get older. I often think of making the resolve of living more in the present so thank for reminding me of that.

That’s exactly the resolution I made a couple years ago…you never know when life will change, friends will pass or move on. So instead of making sure everything is dusted, I’ll call a friend for coffee or organize a lunch. These are things I might regret not taking time for…the ironing can wait.

And could you have a more beautiful blog? I am inspired by your every photo…thanks for sharing such marvelous food with us week after week. You shine in the blogger world.
